Free agent bust Ladarius Green released by the Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Thursday that they have released tight end Ladarius Green. He ended up catching 18 passes for 308 yards and a touchdown before leaving a December victory over Cincinnati with a concussion. Green was drafted to help potentially transition when Antonio Gates, the great veteran starter for the Chargers, was going to retire or to provide some cushion during seasons when he's injured. He was an original fourth-round pick from back in 2012. He began the season on the active/PUP list. He was placed on the reserve/PUP list on August 30 and didn't play until Week 10. Green showed flashes of excellence in the 2016 season, especially in Week 13 against the Giants when he had six receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.

He also missed the final five games of the season with a concussion, which was alarming since he had similar issues dating back to his time with the Chargers. The concussion cost Green a playoff run. Green participated in OTAs.

The Steelers used a failed physical designation, which also has been used by the Miami Dolphins to release Dion Jordan and the Kansas City Chiefs to release Jamaal Charles this offseason.
