ICJ to pronounce verdict on Kulbhushan Jadhav case today

In 2013, an Indian man convicted of espionage and awaiting execution was beaten to death by fellow inmates in Pakistan, prompting an angry response from India.

The ICJ rejected Pakistan's stance and stated that the court had jurisdiction and would hear the case and seek arguments from both parties. And the opacity of the legal process - in a Pakistani military court, no less - that resulted in his death sentence is very disturbing.

The Pakistan government also faced flak for its choice of United Kingdom -based Khawar Qureshi, who represented Pakistan's case before the ICJ.

Baahubali 2 collections cross Rs 1500 crore, highest in Indian film history!
Baahubali: The Conclusion is unstoppable and it has now become the FIRST movie to cross 1500 crore mark worldwide. At the number four position is Baahubali: The Beginning , with its Rs 650 crore earnings.

Pakistan's attorney general Ashtar Ausaf said on Thursday that the ICJ had asked Islamabad to maintain the status quo in the case. The statement was made after the Nawaz Sharif government faced flak from foreign policy experts, lawyers and Opposition leaders there over the handling of the case.

These reactions came soon after the Pakistan's Foreign Office said that the ICJ has no jurisdiction over the county's national security matters, which in this instance was the execution of Jadhav.

"Reportedly, Khawar Qureshi would continue to represent Pakistan in the court in capacity of her counsel", the news portal said while quoting sources. When the polices use coercive measures to elicit confession from petty offenders, it requires no proof to say that with India, being a bête noire of Pakistan, the latter has extracted a confession from Jadhav under duress. Pakistan Bar Council executive member Raheel Kamran Sheikh said it was matter of concern that success rate of Pakistan in worldwide arbitration cases was 2 per cent while India's success rate was 60 per cent.

Bundesliga signs up first woman referee for next season
BUNDESLIGA chiefs have confirmed Bibiana Steinhaus will become the country's first-ever female referee. Certainly I am under special observation - even through the media - at the beginning of the season.

According to law, Jadhav can challenge his death sentence in an appellate court till the end of Saturday. Questions remain about the circumstances of Jadhav's arrest and detention (India believes that he was kidnapped from Iran). Therefore for the very vocal but lesser lights of the political establishment to thump their chests as if Pakistan had been snubbed would be misleading, a cheap attempt at political encashment of the anti-Pak sentiments sweeping across the nation: sentiments in which the Jadhav affair is only one element.

Islamabad could insist on cooperation from India on the investigation into Jadhav's activities, he said. "This has been a matter of concern".

OPEC sees much higher oil supply from rivals in 2017
On Thursday, non-members Turkmenistan and Equatorial Guinea said they would join the cuts, though they are smaller producers. Surging U.S. production has raised concern that OPEC and its partners are failing to reduce an oversupply.
