Police fire in the air to disperse lynch protesters

In the last two months, irate village mobs have attacked men on the suspicion of being child lifters in which several persons lost their lives while many others sustained serious injuries.

The incident occurred a week after two persons had been beaten to death and as many injured by a mob on suspicion that they were child lifters in Uranium township of Jadugora in East Singhbhum district.

The families of the deceased have demanded compensation from the government.

Mob violence continued unabated across India, the latest incident being reported from Jharkhand, where three Muslim cattle traders were lynched based on rumours that they were involved in kidnapping of local children. Another member of this group, Sheikh Halim (28), was initially reported missing but his body was found in the locality on Friday, said police. Taking self cognizance of the incident the chief minister has condemned the killings and has instructed the district administration to take strict action against those who spread such kind of rumours and try to disturb the communal harmony of the state.

The victims - Sheikh Naim, 35, Sheikh Sajju, 25, and Sheikh Siraj, 26, Sheikh Halim (28), in a group of four set off from Haldipokhar for Rajnagar to buy cattle when their vehicle was intercepted by the mob. One of the four men died in hospital. They also set their vehicle on fire.

The whole incident started around midnight and went on till early morning hours. Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Rakesh Bansal told The Telegraph.

In April, Shamsuddin Ansari was badly beaten by villagers in Chandrapur of Bokaro district after he was suspected of being a child lifter.
