Cloud Computing, surprise Preakness champion, is uncertain for Belmont Stakes

Meet owner Seth Klarman, who grew up three blocks from Pimlico Race Course and came to the Preakness "many, many times" as a kid. "Classic Empire and Always Dreaming are two outstanding horses, and our strategy was, if we are ever going to beat them let's take them on two weeks' rest when we have six (weeks), and it worked".

Cloud Computing skipped the Kentucky Derby, while eventual victor Always Dreaming and Classic Empire mixed it up in the mud at Churchill Downs. Two weeks later, Cloud Computing pounced on those two horses in the Preakness, pulling off an upset victory at 13-1 odds Saturday.

Ryan said the decision to not run Cloud Computing in the Derby, won by Preakness eighth-place finisher Always Dreaming, was also a factor in Saturday's victory. It felt like he was on a loose rein by the time they turned up the backside, That's kind of what we anticipated Classic Empire would do, take it to us, but he just didn't have that reserve today.

"He's put a lot of time and money into the game, he's very deserving, his birthday is tomorrow, everything lined up". "My only disappointment was that Always Dreaming didn't carry us a little farther".

"He won the Breeders" Cup Juvenile going out after it and I said to (jockey) Julien (Leparoux), "second doesn't mean anything."' Classic Empire's trainer Mark Casse said.

President Rouhani Says Iranian Nation Winner of Polls
Newly re-elected Iranian President Hassan Rouhani smiles during a televised speech in the capital Tehran on May 20 , 2017. Nasrallah was apparently referring to gulf Arab nations that list Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

"Absolutely", Brown said. "Such a rare race, Triple Crown race, and a huge part for me, for our team, for our clientele".

When a horse gets the lead too easily, they think their job is over - remember horses are pack animals and don't like to be alone. In Baltimore the path was clearer and Classic Empire delivered. During the last 10 years, nine Derby starters won the Preakness - all but 2009 victor Rachel Alexandra, who also had only two weeks of rest after winning the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on Derby eve. Javier Castellano had kept Cloud Computing in third and had plenty of horse when it mattered most.

Cloud Computing was prepped for racing at Stonestreet Farm under the direction of Ian Brennan, who along with Nick de Meric and J.J. Crupi, handle the preparation of the Preakness owners' horses in Florida.

The first time the horses came around the grandstand in Saturday's 142nd Preakness Stakes, Todd Pletcher knew.

Pletcher didn't have any immediate reason for Always Dreaming's performance, except to think that a combination of the track surface and running back in two weeks might have conspired against him. "We have a great communication together and I think that is the key to winning the race". Castellano won his second Preakness, his first since 2006 when he was victorious aboard Bernardini in the ill-fated Barbaro Preakness.

Iran's Zarif: US 'milking' Saudis money
Iran, a Shia Muslim nation, has long considered Saudi Arabia to be its top Sunni adversary in the Middle East. President should rather discuss how to prevent Saudi Arabia from carrying out another 9/11 attack.

I was very disappointed when Cloud Computing ran down the Mark Casse-trained Classic Empire. It was just the dark brown colt's second career victory.

Cloud Computing stole the Preakness, and any hope of a Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes. He ran so hard in the Derby and today just wasn't his day. "This is the only race that eluded him in his unbelievable career", said Brown, who served as a longtime assistant to Frankel before going out on his own. He got the trip that was expected except that what really happened in the Preakness is that he may have come back too quickly after winning the Kentucky Derby two weeks prior.

Behind him, Corey Lanerie on Lookin At Lee and Channing Hill, a regular rider at Oaklawn Park, were asking their late charging steeds for another gear, a little more gas and a surge. I've always praised my mentor [the late Hall of Famer] Bobby Frankel, who taught me so much.

"You're looking at horses that traveled at 2, ran at as high a level as we have, so you're not surprised", said Steve Asmussen, who trains Lookin At Lee and won last year's Belmont with Creator.

So, no Triple Crown chance but this crop is certainly well below the likes of American Pharoah, horses we have been spoiled with lately.
