President Rouhani Says Iranian Nation Winner of Polls

"I'm not going to comment on my expectation", Tillerson said.

He made the remarks at a news conference with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in Riyadh.

Newly re-elected Iranian President Hassan Rouhani smiles during a televised speech in the capital Tehran on May 20, 2017.

Nasrallah was apparently referring to gulf Arab nations that list Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

Rouhani will have to find an accommodation with them, or end up like his reformist predecessor Mohammad Khatami, who whetted Iranians' appetite for change but failed to deliver it during two terms from 1997-2005.

The interior minister hailed the high turnout in the elections, noting that 73 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballots in Friday's elections.

His re-election was a stamp of approval for the 2015 nuclear agreement that Iran signed with six world powers under which Tehran curbed uranium enrichment in exchange for an easing of worldwide economic sanctions.

Battle lines drawn in Israel embassy move
Hard-liners who dominate Netanyahu's government grew particularly concerned when White House national security adviser H.R. Such a decision, Arab leaders say , would inflame the Arab street and could lead to an increase in extremism.

The lingering effects of America's non-nuclear sanctions - and the ever-present threat of additional sanctions arising from Washington - are among the causes of Iran's economic woes.

Trump's administration is likely to keep putting pressure on Iran over its weapons programs, as well as what it sees as Tehran's efforts to destabilize the Middle East, former USA officials and analysts said.

But there is no indication that Rouhani will be a "moderate" or a "reformer" on any other issues.

Rouhani, a 68-year-old moderate cleric who spearheaded a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, said voters had shunned those who wanted to turn the country back to the past. Assad's government is strongly backed by Tehran.

"Our elections indicated to the neighbors and the region that the way to restore security to the region is to shore up democracy and honor the people's votes rather than to rely on foreign powers", Rouhani added.

Meanwhile, "President Xi Jinping on Saturday sent a congratulatory message to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on his re-election as president", tweeted People's Daily.

In addition, Russian Federation and Iran are two of the three so-called guarantors of an initiative to establish "safe zones" in Syria. His main challenger, hardline judge Ebrahim Raisi, received 38 per cent.

North Korea confirms details of missile launch
North Korean strongman Kim Jong-un isn't giving South Korea's new leader much room to try out a softer approach toward his regime. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he wants to raise the issue of North Korean missile launches at the G7 summit in Italy.

More than 99 percent of the ballots have been counted.

"Our nation's message in the election was clear: Iran's nation chose the path of interaction with the world, away from violence and extremism", Rouhani said.

Earlier, another Iranian political expert, Hassan Beheshti Pour, told Aftab-e-Yazd that "We should have to be anxious if Rouhani is not reelected", since in that case other countries would readjust their policies toward Iran.

"I respect the outcome of the vote of the people and the result will be respected by me and all the people", Raisi said after voting, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

As Rouhani appeared close to victory, some female drivers held out the V for victory sign and flashed their vehicle lights on highways in Tehran's affluent north.

Ahmadi said the Interior Ministry expects to announce final results later Saturday.

Rouhani's rival Raisi complained about alleged voting irregularities and accused Rouhani's supporters of hundreds of acts of propaganda at voting booths, banned under electoral law, the BBC reported.
