US hackers could be behind US presidential campaign leaks: Putin

The FBI is now investigating Russian influence on the presidential election and any possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow.

Speaking on a panel at the 2017 St Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, the Russian president told NBC News anchor Megyn Kelly that the USA election hack could have been accomplished by anyone-including her daughter.

"It's like saying everything is the Jews' fault", said Putin, who placed the blame for Hillary Clinton's November loss squarely at the feet of the Democratic presidential candidate and members of her party.

"I have read these reports", said Putin. "Hoof prints? Horn prints?"

He said the attack was a provocation meant to put the blame on the Syrian ruler, insisting: "Assad didn't use those weapons".

USA intelligence services say Russian Federation hacked the Democratic National Committee previous year to harm the campaign of Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton, who political analysts say Putin despised.

"I said it in then, I say it now", he added. This reminds me of anti-Semitism.

Putin insisted Thursday that his government was not involved in hacking the USA election, CBS News justice and homeland security correspondent Jeff Pegues reports. "They can even be hackers, by the way, in the United States who very skillfully and professionally shifted the blame, as we say, onto Russian Federation". That admission was a reversal of Putin's prior position, that of complete denial of a Russian connection to the hacking that some Democrats blame for the loss of the election.

However, the Russian leader said Mr. Snowden should have resigned from his job in the same way he once resigned from the KGB rather than leak secrets if he did not like what he was doing.

Putin, addressing the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, said on Friday that the hacking accusations were nothing more than "harmful gossip" which he complained was damaging international relations and the global economy.

He added that while watching the US campaign unfold, he would sometimes think that Mr. Trump was going "over the top".

India is committed to protecting the climate, irrespective of the Paris agreement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here today but avoided a direct reference to the United States withdrawing from the global deal.

The Kremlin leader said the Paris accord is a "framework deal" that could be revised to "change the USA obligations inside the framework" of the agreement.

Putin also said critics of Trump's decision, which he announced on Thursday afternoon, were overreacting and that there is time to renegotiate the agreement.
