Music Festival in Germany Evacuated Due to Terrorist Threat

Germany's biggest rock festival will resume after being disrupted by fears of a possible "terrorist threat" which have proved to be unfounded, the organisers said Saturday.

"In our view, that made the abstract threat far more concrete", said Koblenz police chief Wolfgang Fromm.

At a press conference, police chief Wolfgang Fromm said Koblenz police had chose to suspend the festival after receiving a warning on Friday morning that a non-German national with terrorist connections had gained access to security-relevant sites with false identity details.

The three-day "Rock am Ring", held at the famous Nuerburgring sports complex near the western city of Nuerburg, is scheduled to run until Sunday.

Launched in 1985, Rock am Ring takes place annually at the Nürburgring and some 85,000 people were expected to attend this year's edition. The police warning led organizers to shut down the festival -which features acts including Rammstein, System of a Down, Liam Gallagher, Prophets of Rage, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - on Friday.

"Due to a terror danger situation, we told the organiser to temporarily stop the concert as a precaution", local police said in a statement, according to Variety.

However, the threat of terrorism at concerts in today's world is very real and constantly looming.

"Set up for day two of Rock am Ring has commenced and the program is going to be resumed in the early afternoon", the festival said.
