The trial is highly unusual, with prosecuting attorneys tasked with proving that her texts resulted in Roy's death. Then Carter called him back and that call lasted 47 minutes."On July 12, 2014, as his truck was filling with carbon monoxide, he was scared, he got out", prosecutor Maryclare Flynn said. His body was found in a Kmart parking lot several miles outside Boston.

Carter, a now-20-year-old Plainville resident, is accused of persuading her boyfriend Conrad Roy III to commit suicide in 2014. Moreover, he argues that manslaughter is an inappropriate charge in this case, according to People magazine.

Prosecutors admitted photographs of the event as evidence to support their argument that Carter was a needy, attention seeker who badgered her boyfriend to commit suicide to garner sympathy.

Unlike the other classmates who said they did not know Carter well, Boardman explained that she texted Carter about food and gave her advice because both shared eating issues.

"The prosecution has to be able to prove that the text messages pushed the victim over the edge in this case or she walks", Attorney Aron Keller of LawNewz.com told Inside Edition.

She also testified that after her son's death, she received text messages from Carter expressing sympathy but not mentioning any prior knowledge about suicide plans.

"Liv, I heard him die".

"She asked Conrad in excess of 40 times when he was going to kill himself", the prosecution said in court. At the time, they lived almost 40 miles apart in Massachusetts - Carter in Plainville and Roy in Mattapoisett.

Roy had a history of depression and had attempted suicide in the past, but his family was hopeful he would get through it.

When she realized police had obtained Roy's phone, a frantic Carter texted Boardman saying, "I'm so done" and "His family will hate me, and I could go to jail".

Court documents previously released by prosecutors say that Carter also organized and fundraised a memorial baseball tournament for Roy. Or are you gonna try to get better?

It was Carter who urged him to get help, Cataldo said.

And it said, in part: "He got out of the vehicle because it was working and he got scared and I f*****g told him to get back in". All you have to do is turn the generator on and you bee (sic) free and happy.

Carter texted him that he kept "overthinking it" and "pushing it off".

A month later, when Carter texted about how she was on the phone with Roy and "heard him die", Eithier texted Carter that she couldn't help her.

"If you want it as bad as you say you do, its time to do it today". If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison. She was indicted and has appealed the decision.

Attorney Joseph Cataldo talks to his client, Michelle Carter, before meeting at a side bar at the beginning of the court session at Taunton Juvenile Court in Taunton, Mass., on Mon., June 5, 2017.

"It was Conrad Roy's idea to take his own life; it was not Michelle's idea", Cataldo said, according to WCVB. "It's something they have to do with suicides and homicides", Carter texted Boardman.

Carter waived her jury trial, leaving her fate in the hands of the judge. The rationale is that a judge will approach the case pragmatically and will not be affected by the emotional testimony and "appalling" details behind Roy's death.
