Diego Costa facing trouble with move away from Chelsea

Twenty league goals and seven assists was what Diego Costa managed for Chelsea in the English top flight last season - a decent haul, but evidently not enough to persuade Antonio Conte to keep him on board. Antonio Conte's arrival did not help Costa's cause, who was linked to exits throughout the season. With each day that has passed in 2017, Costa has become more unhappy and his behaviour more erratic.

But now it's all out in the open Conte, Costa and Chelsea can get on sorting out their futures.

"I'm a Chelsea player, but they do not want me there", Costa is quoted as saying by the BBC. That deterioration in the personal relationship between manager and player has led to a decision that, on the basis of Costa's performance this season alone, would be hard to explain.

Chelsea do not have a buyer yet for Costa despite interest in his services in previous months.

Costa's goal in the Group G game was his team-leading fifth in as many qualifiers since Lopetegui took over for Vicente del Bosque, who had lost confidence in Costa and dropped him before last year's European Championship.

In turn, the striker revealed he wanted to return to Atletico Madrid, the club he moved to Chelsea from back in 2014.

Costa is in limbo and calling for clubs to come in for him.

Russia's win eases the pressure on winning its second game, against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Moscow on Wednesday. New Zealand is now without a win in 10 FIFA Confederations Cup matches and struggled to make an attacking impression.

Indeed, a report in the Daily Mail claims that the Chelsea board fear the text will cost them millions, as they will have to accept a lower price for the 28-year-old because of Conte's supposed rogue actions.

Despite topping the club's goalscoring charts in 2016-17, with his 20 efforts helping the Blues to the Premier League title, the Spain worldwide has been deemed surplus to requirements.
