Maori All Blacks concede defeat to Lions

Wales quartet Cory Hill, Kristian Dacey, Gareth Davies and Tomas Francis have made the short trip from Auckland to link up with the Lions.

Johnny Sexton laid down the gauntlet in the wake of the British and Irish Lions' 32-10 victory over the Maori All Blacks by claiming they are not the only ones who will be under pressure to deliver in next weekend's first Test against New Zealand, with the fly-half pointing to the proud record that is held at Eden Park.

Finn Russell and Allan Dell will also come in following Scotland's win over Australia in Sydney, and they arrive in Hamilton on Sunday.

Gatland said off-the-ball obstruction was endemic in New Zealand rugby and his players had been blocked throughout their five warm-up games, costing them valuable attacking opportunities.

"If you look back, the very first kick-off in Chicago with Ireland against the All Blacks, the All Blacks were penalised for interference and blocking", added Gatland, referring to Ireland's shock win over the world champions previous year.

With the win, Hamilton cut Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel's lead to just 12 points after starting the race 25 points behind. Grosjean suffered damage to his car's nose and thus limped back into the pits for a replacement.

"It kicked in last week when we got into camp and is starting to amplify now that we are finally getting to the first Lions Test", said Kaino.

Warburton has been battling an ankle problem, but the Lions bosses now expect him to be fully ready to take on back-to-back world champions New Zealand.

"I have had no contact from the Lions at all", he said. England are in Argentina but because of time zones, any of their players would probably not arrive in New Zealand before Tuesday. We've had to adapt to the southern Hemisphere play in the scrummage and we've been working on that and we had been working on that before at the start of the tour.

"My only comment would be I would like to see it picked on merit rather than geographical proximity".

A penalty try and another score from Maro Itoje crushed the Maori spirit, with the home side given precious little sniff of stealing a victory to emulate their predecessors of 2005.

The victor of each of the three groups qualifies automatically, with the best second-placed team also going through. The Southampton midfielder and Young Lions skipper said: "It was a massive disappointment for me, that tournament".

The Lions held a 12-10 lead at the break courtesy of four Halfpenny penalties as they deprived the Maori of fast ball.

If the Lions want to be judged exclusively on what happens against the All Blacks, then why not just start and end there instead of asking everyone to buy into a longer tour?

"It was pretty good". I am sure they will review the games like we will.

An expectant crowd did not see the stylish Maori display it was hoping for, as the Lions put the home side under huge pressure by winning their battles all over the park, with Liam Messam scoring their only try in a first half played in wet conditions.

"We played 50 minutes together against the Crusaders and I think we went well together", said Sexton of his fledgling partnership with Farrell.

VAR Is The Star As Chile Slip Past Cameroon
Late goals from Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas saw Chile open their Confederations Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Cameroon . Portugal had a first-half goal by Nani disallowed after a video review, when the game was still scoreless.

It is all but confirmed that the matchday squad for Saturday's first Test against the All Blacks will be made up of the 22 men not selected for Tuesday's game in Hamilton and, most likely, Welsh lock Alun Wyn Jones.
