Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid: Florentino Perez bemused by exit rumours

The English giants are emerging as the favorites to land the talent of the Portuguese superstar, who announced his desire to leave Spain after being accused of tax evasion to the tune of $16.5 million.

For all the words written and spoken about the four-time Champions League victor, the only people who really know are Ronaldo himself and long-time adviser Jorge Mendes.

He has led Madrid to back-to-back Champions League titles and its first Spanish league in five seasons this year, and helped Portugal to win last year's European Championship.

The Red Devils are keen on bringing back Ronaldo to Old Trafford following his decision to leave Los Blancos.

Ballack expects Ronaldo to stay at Real Madrid
Where would you like to see Ronaldo next season? I hope he can overcome the problem and I trust Cristiano Ronaldo and his team. Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also reported to be interested.

"Fans aren't saying we don't want to make that marquee signing because he's only good for shirt sales".

However, with Mourinho looking to build a solid unit to take on the Premier League and Europe, there is scepticism as to whether or not Ronaldo would fit in.

"The only thing I can say is Cristiano Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player", said Perez, who was re-elected on Monday.

Liverpool on the other hand remain in talks with Roma over winger Mohamed Salah, 25, but will not pay more than £35m for the Egypt global, which falls short of the Serie A club's valuation.

"If Cristiano wants to leave Real Madrid, it won't be for money".

"I have always said I have great affection for Cristiano". Their tease to promote it was this quote: "Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player and will continue to be". When extending his contract with Madrid previous year through to 2021, the European and Spanish champions made sure their talisman couldn't leave by slapping a ridiculous $1 billion buyout clause on his deal.

Perez's radio interview came hours after the 70-year-old businessman was reelected to a fifth four-year term as Madrid's president.

Marca said that Ronaldo believes he is being made an example of because of his status as a star and that "he is judged without people really knowing him".

But he was left bemused by the touch judges keeping their flags down despite the ball appearing to go over the post. After stewing on defeat for three days, the Lions are back on track.

The speculated transfer figure would be more than twice the record 94 million euros Real paid Manchester United for Ronaldo in 2009.
