U.S. military confirms airstrikes killed 2 Afghan soldiers

The Afghan army soldier opened fire and killed the Americans, according to USA and Afghan officials.

Saturday's attack came just hours after an errant USA air strike killed and wounded at least six Afghan policemen in southern Helmand province, in the latest "friendly fire" incident.

The Taliban has extended its control and influence to swathes of Afghanistan and intensified battlefield attacks across the country since launching its so-called yearly spring offensive in late April, killing scores of Afghan security forces.

"We can confirm personnel from the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces were killed and wounded during overnight operations in Helmand province".

The Trump administration is in the middle of a review of the overall US strategy in Afghanistan.
