Pakistan played flawless game, adjusted well to win Champions Trophy: Gilchrist

They sought ideal revenge for their defeat to India by 124 runs in the tournament's opening game, when they thrashed the arch-rivals by 180 runs in the final.

The International Cricket Council is considering ditching the Champions Trophy in favour of staging the World Twenty20 on a biennial basis.

Title-holders India, set 339 to win, collapsed to 33 for three and 54 for five against a Pakistan side they had thrashed by 124 runs in their tournament opener at Edgbaston on June 4. If the proposal sees the light of the day, fans could see two World T20 tournaments in the next four-year cycle.

Chief Executive of ICC David Richardson has recently revealed that there is no guarantee as to whether this tournamnet will be held or not and that it would be discussed during the ongoing ICC annual conference at The Oval.

Australian cricketing legend Adam Gilchrist on Monday credited Pakistan's adaptability and perseverance in the face of domestic challenges as key to their rout of favourites India in the Champions Trophy.

This month's Champions Trophy, held intermittently since 1998, was contested between only the top eight sides in the world, while the World Cup is now scheduled to include just 10 teams.

Rough start costs Alex Meyer in Angels' loss to Red Sox
Red Sox DH Hanley Ramirez who has fallen to the 6th spot in the lineup had a two-run home run in the game out to opposite field. He told of an interaction with an Indians catcher that revealed Ortiz's ignorance with regard to his long-time teammates' name.

India had already beaten Pakistan, the world's eighth-ranked team, in the earlier stages of the competition. But some officials believe the eight-team event is now too similar to the World Cup which the ICC, controversially, has decided should be contested by just 10 teams from the 2019 event in England.

A former global wicketkeeper with South Africa, Richardson explained that by staging a World T20, it will allow the ICC to include more teams to expand the sport to parts of the world in which it is not so popular.

He further insisted that the idea is to give opportunities to more teams, hinting at the possibility of 20 teams featuring in World T20s in future.
