Gillespie, Northam Win GOP and Democratic Primaries in Virginia Governor's Race

At 9 a.m. Tuesday, 3 percent had cast ballots, the same overall voter turnout for the Democratic primary four years ago, James City voter registrar Dianna Moorman said.

Mr. Trump's shadow hung over both primaries, with Democratic voters in Alexandria saying they were physically repulsed by Mr. Trump and applauding Mr. Northam for labeling him a "narcissistic maniac" in one of his closing campaign ads.

Gov. Terry McAulliffe, the man who hopes to be replaced by Northam when his term ends in January, endorsed him previous year.

But as primary day has neared, the competing ideas about what issues should drive the race dovetailed. Mark Warner, while Sanders and Sen.

"Anyone that both Sen".

"I see this as the midterm of the midterms", Felty said. "It was definitely a focus from outside on what Virginia needs for the future Democratic Party".

Best to captain Lions against Hurricanes
Wing George North and centre Jonathan Joseph will both start against the Hurricanes , while Jack Nowell is at full-back. But overall, they got the better of us in that area and we need to improve in that aspect.

But that isn't enough for everyone. Northam is now the lieutenant governor, and it seemed to be a given that he'd be the Democratic nominee for governor. Sanders, and ran as an "unapologetic liberal". Virginia is one of two states electing governors this year.

The frenetic Perriello, 42, held a 24-hour marathon campaign blitz throughout the commonwealth at the end of last week, stopping in diners, gas stations and holding a fun run.

In the Democratic primary, Northam was endorsed by almost all of the party's elective officials - from the statehouse to the courthouse. "I will not campaign for him". Polls have shown that Perriello has a slight lead in the race, but that lead may be contingent on unreliable pools of voters who usually sit primaries out. But Stewart's stronger-than-anticipated performance is a reminder that Trump, despite sub-40 approval ratings nationally, remains popular with Republicans, even as investigations into his associates continue to rock Washington. He also has the endorsement of Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta, who worked with Perriello at CAP. "And that opens up the channels to get the funds if this tightens up into a big showdown". In Ohio, for example, US Rep. Jim Renacci already is campaigning with a message that mimics Trump's - and with the support of colorful groups such as Bikers for Trump. "We supported Tom because he was the visionary in the race". "Republicans want to claim that the Trump movement is doing well and the Democrats want to claim it is not".

Progressive-backed Perriello raised $1.7 million as of April, and Northam earned $1.4 million, although it should be noted that he was unable to accept campaign donations during the state's legislative session this spring. "I don't like the direction that he's taking this country", Northam later told NPR. "I think it has bigger consequences than people imagine".

Northam will face Ed Gillespie in the general election.

Corey Stewart consistently aligned himself with President Trump. Perriello is hoping Virginia progressives view his move as a signal that he will rid corporate influence from the governor's mansion - a task that will be much easier said than done.

ORACLE TEAM USA is back on track. "We felt they were a little rusty last weekend but we are under no illusions". Burling made the most of a wind shift on the third leg to stretch their lead to 32 seconds at the third mark.

Democratic voters were energized in opposition to Trump and turned out in higher-than-expected numbers Tuesday.

The president certainly won't be a plus for whomever the GOP nominates this fall. Clinton carried the state by 6 points a year ago, and Trump's approval rating was at just 36 percent in a Quinnipiac University Poll in April. However, with more than half of precincts reporting, Gillespie was only neck-and-neck with Prince William County Board of Supervisors chair Corey Stewart. Felty, a 48-year-old surgical assistant, said a GOP victory in Virginia would wrestle back the "narrative being touted in the mainstream media that the Democrats are gaining traction" under Trump.

He came very close to winning in Tuesday's primary election.

Gillespie has basically ignored Stewart, and the strategy has worked. Ultimately, he hasn't fully embraced or rebuked the president.

Pressed by NBC as to whether he would campaign with Trump, Gillespie also hedged and argued this was about state and local issues.

This time around, his chances rest on the what may or may not be the "power" of the Trump vote in Virginia. "And a lot did not", Gillespie said. "We've been backing down too long".
