Seattle-based Microsoft is trying to narrow Amazon Web Services' (AWS) considerable lead over Azure, and Box wants to expand sales after reaching a cash-flow profitability milestone earlier this year.

The deal is a good one for both companies, it gives Box access to the biggest enterprise company, and with collaboration and content management offerings such as Box's thriving off partnerships and integrations, there isn't a bigger company to be aligned with. Founded in 2005, Box powers more than 74,000 businesses globally, including AstraZeneca, General Electric, P&G, and The GAP. This new version gives customers the ability to extend an on-premises cluster into Azure for added capacity, or to easily build a cluster entirely in Azure.
