Trump takes another swipe at CNN following resignations

On Friday, CNN was forced to retract a story from its website alleging that a member of the Trump transition team, #Anthony Scaramucci, was under Senate investigation for discussing the lifting of sanctions against Russian Federation shortly before Trump's inauguration.

The retracted story appeared on CNN's website and did not air on television.

But CNN's retraction, the latest poll and the reaction to the special election setbacks suggest the fever may be breaking.

Haris, the executive editor of CNN Investigates, has worked at CNN for 16 years and took over the investigative unit in January, moving from CNNMoney. Bonifield states "And the CEO of CNN said in our internal meeting, he said 'good job everybody covering the Climate Accords, but we're done with it let's get back to Russian Federation'".

According to Politico, CNN accepted the resignations of Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist Thomas Frank, assistant managing editor Eric Lichtblau and executive editor in charge of investigations, Lex Harris.

In a statement provided to CNN, the network said it had "accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication".

CNN management determined some standard editorial processes were not followed when the article was posted online; it was never broadcast on CNN, CNN Money reported. An internal email from CNN shows that the company has imposed new rules on stories concerning the Russian investigation. Yet the departure of three journalists immediately following a mangled story provides a counterpoint to this particular slander.

The departures of Haris, Lichtblau and Frank are likely to come as a surprise to colleagues, particularly given the reputations of the three men.

The story was deleted and retracted the next day.

The email went out at 11:21 a.m. on Saturday from Rich Barbieri, the CNNMoney executive editor, saying "No one should publish any content involving Russian Federation without coming to me and Jason [Farkas]", a CNN vice president.

Recently, CNN reported in advance of former FBI Director James Comey's Senate testimony that the embattled former FBI chief would contradict Trump's claims that Comey had told him that he wasn't a target of the probe.

CNN's media unit has an enormous black hole in its review of the media world: CNN.

It is not immediately clear what in the story is factually incorrect, or whether CNN will continue to report on the issue.
