Christie ripped for beach photos by … his lieutenant governor

Many took to Twitter to voice their opinions on Christie's beach use, including Christie's second-in-command, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. NJ Advance Media snapped exclusive aerial photos of Christie with his wife, Mary Pat Christie, and others. The photos were taken Sunday afternoon before Christie headed back to Trenton for a news conference.

He spent the day hanging out at a beach in his state, relaxing and soaking up the sun with some family members.

Christie said he'll return to Trenton on Monday but, "I can't sign a budget that's not on my desk" and a bill he signs would open state parks immediately.

When told of the photo, Christie's spokesperson Brian Murray acknowledged the visit.

"I'm not happy about this", Christie said in a press conference just eight hours before the shutdown deadline. "I have my boat here and I can't get my boat, no good", he added.

"He had a baseball hat on", Murray said. "When I have a choice between sleeping with my family and sleeping alone, I generally like to sleep where my family is".

New Jersey's budget stalemate between Republican Gov. Chris Christie and the Democrat-controlled Legislature is smoldering with the state government shut down and state parks closed to the public as the Fourth of July approaches. "Run for governor, and you can have a residence there", he was quoted as telling reporters on Saturday.

If you're one of the many Staten Islanders heading to a New Jersey beach for the Independence Day weekend, or are there already, you may know that New Jersey government has shut down all non-essential government facilities, including state parks and beaches.

"That's because the governor has a residence at Island Beach".

"The governor is allowed to go to his residences and I'm at my residences", he told Fox 5.

Christie himself is the one who ordered the shutdown, but perhaps his ray-catching will bring some inspiration to how to break the impasse and get the government up and running. With his approval ratings falling, the New Jersey legislature is unwilling to accommodate Christie very far or to link the Horizon demand with the state budget.

He later tweeted that 119 of New Jersey's 130 miles of coastline are open to the public.
