"Pained and disappointed" CAC write to CoA to clear the air

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) appointed Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as the batting coach and the bowling coach of the team respectively, but those were mere recommendations, mentioned the CoA on Saturday. This has been done even when the appointment of Ravi Shastri as the Indian cricket team coach has been confirmed by the CoA.

After making all the major decisions regarding the payment structure and the confirmed list of coaching staff as laid by Shastri, the four-member panel will reach to the CoA on July 22.

"You will be well aware that we put our heart and soul into the process, approaching a task made delicate by the recent developments with a clear head and with the sole aim of providing the Indian team with the best resources possible to become the world beaters they are capable of being", the letter stated. Speaking the CoA's decision, Rai said, "We have taken all the recommendations of the CAC for Ravi Shastri as head coach and we will further discuss with him appointment of other coaches".

J&K: PDP MLA's driver arrested in connection with Amarnath Yatra attack case
However, a News18 channel said the arrests were made in connection with Amarnath Yatra terror attack case. So far, over 1.40 lakh pilgrims have reached the cave shrine located at 3,888 metres above sea-level.

It was reported in the media that the former captain favoured former bowling coach Bharat Arun for the role instead of Khan, but that was in contravention to what the CAC felt.

Also, CoA laid stress on the fact that CAC's choice is just a recommendation and the final decision will be taken by the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators. "The CAC has been constituted to recommend the names of the coaches and the COA will decide about the appointment and other details (consultants, support staff and nature of contracts)", said a CoA member. "A recommendation has been made and the CoA has to act on the recommendation, that recommendation will be acted upon in consultation with the head coach".

"We spoke to Mr Shastri about getting Mr Khan and Mr Dravid on board in these capacities, and he readily agreed to the idea of having them in the set-up so that it could benefit the team and Indian cricket as a whole in time to come", the CAC wrote in its letter.

Women's WC: New Zealand win toss, put India to bat
We've had one washout and then losses against Australia and England but we've played some really good cricket. We've got what is basically a quarter-final against India and we know we can beat them.

Since the Indian cricket team is leaving for a tour of Sri Lanka on July 19, it is not clear if Zaheer and Dravid will travel with the team. "It is more likely that Zaheer will be offered a 150-day contract which is likely to start from the tour of Sri Lanka starting next week".

"Zaheer was contacted for 150 days per year", Ganguly told reporters at the Eden Gardens.

The Virat Kohli-led side will land in Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series, followed by five One-day Internationals and a solitary T20 global game.
