Given the signings that Everton have already made in the summer transfer window so far, Barkley could find it hard to play regularly for the Toffees next season.

The England global has a year left on his current deal and boss Ronald Koeman's pleas for the gifted midfielder to sign a new deal seem to have fallen on deaf ears. "I'll be trying to help the young lads to get the best out of them".

According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the 23-year-old and will try to secure his services before they leave for their pre-season tour of the USA. However, the catch remains that notoriously tight-fisted Daniel Levy does not want to pay the £50m price tag that Everton have slapped on the player and want him for £30m instead. The attacking midfielder would fit the system for Spurs and give them extra ammunition going forward.

Having opted not to pen a new deal with Everton, despite an offer of a contract worth £100,000-a-week on the table, it's clear that Barkley intends on moving on this summer but there is seemingly a long way to go between what Everton want and what Tottenham will offer.

Everton are still holding out for a deal in the region of £50 million, a figure vindicated by Spurs selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £54m this week.
