Voice of Kermit the Frog fired after 27 years

Last week Kermit puppeteer Steve Whitmire, who voiced the famous character for 27 years, announced he was sacked by Disney because of disputes over changes being made to the Muppets characters.

In his blog post, Whitmire writes: "As I am sure you can imagine, I have experienced every possible emotion since October 2016, when I received a phone call from The Muppets Studio's executives to say they were recasting".

Whitmire revealed Monday that he was sacked in October after voicing Kermit for 27 years.

"The first issue was that they felt I had been "disrespectful" in being outspoken on character issues with the small group of top creative people during the ABC series".

The actor who for almost three decades provided the voice for the popular Muppet believed that the character was headed in the wrong direction, and says he was sacked by Disney in October partly because he wasn't shy about expressing his opinions. "I have been outspoken about what's best for the Muppets since the Muppets came to Disney (in 2004), but the fact is I have respect for everyone who was involved in the creation of that series for their own particular contributions".

A spokesperson for the Muppets Studio said that Whitmire's "unacceptable business conduct" over the years was to blame for his exit.

Game of Thrones season 7: Sophie Turner warns Sansa will be 'unlikeable'
The character of Sansa Stark has undergone perhaps the most dramatic transformation of any character on HBO's Game of Thrones . After witnessing Ned's execution at the end of season 1 Arya's primary goal was to get back to her family in the North.

"We have been doing these characters for a long, long time and we know them better than anybody". Whitmire is still surprised his 39-year relationship with the Muppets was so abruptly terminated, and wishes he had been given the chance to "correct my course" and stay with the character. Now, both sides have shared more information about what was happening behind the scenes to The Hollywood Reporter, and it turns out that the two issues were "a union dispute" and a general pattern of behavior from Whitmire that-depending on who you listen to-was either "overly hostile and unproductive" or passionately protective of Kermit's legacy.

In addition to Kermit, Whitmire had voiced grumpy critic Statler, Rizzo the Rat, the always-startled Beaker, and other characters for the Muppets. We raised concerns about Steve's repeated unacceptable business conduct over a period of many years and he consistently failed to address the feedback. The studio also notes that it made the decision to fire Whitmire after consulting with the Henson family and receiving their "full support".

"So much hope is gone", he said. I thought I was aiding to keep it on track, and I think a big reason why the show was canceled (after one season last fall) was because that didn't happen.
