Jaume Collet-Serra to Direct Disney's Jungle Cruise

Jaume Collet-Serra has been courted by Disney to direct the upcoming Jungle Cruise movie starring Dwayne Johnson, with The Rock having confirmed the news on Twitter. This means that Collet-Serra will withdraw from Suicide Squad 2, the Warner Bros sequel for which he was top choice. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek 4) wrote the most recent draft of the script. Plot details are still under wraps.

There is now no shortlist or frontrunner to director Suicide Squad 2, which was recently announced at Comic-Con as part of the next slate of DCEU movies.

These features are so standard, in fact, that the idea of locking them behind paid amiibo figures seemed ludicrous. Unlock an Aeion Reserve Tank, which automatically restores a certain amount of Aeion energy should you run out.

Deadline says that the allure of crafting an action-adventure franchise from the ground up, in the vein of Indiana Jones, was more appealing than stepping into an already established franchise, so Collet-Serra settled on Jungle Cruise over Suicide Squad 2. The sequel to last year's commercial success (although hardly a critical one) has been on the lookout for a director, since it became clear that the man who steered the original film, David Ayer, was instead set to focus on Gotham City Sirens, a DC movie centered on female villains.

Collet-Serra, the Spanish director who broke into Hollywood with the genre hit Orphan, has been an under the radar hitmaker, with credits including Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night and The Shallows, the latter of which grossed $119 million worldwide on a $17 million budget.
