The signs were there right from the start.

Lacazette opened his Premier League account with a close-range header in the second minute in their season opener against Leicester. Hardly the strong start the Foxes were after.

A new deal would give Arsenal a feather in their cap in the quest to push forward and may in turn help in persuading the likes of Alexis and Oxlade-Chamberlain to remain at the club.

Giroud wins thriller for Arsenal
The Premier League finally returned to our screens this evening with Arsenal playing host to Leicester in the season opener. Egypt worldwide Mohamed Elneny sent a cross that was met by Lacazette, who headed the ball beyond Kasper Schmeichel .

Kelechi Iheanacho, the £25m summer signing from Manchester City, is only fit enough to start on the bench, as Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki lead the attacking line. The assist from Mahrez was perhaps his best contribution to the match as he was completely bullied by Kolasinac who didn't allow the winger to play his natural game. A quick turnover in Arsenal's half found Marc Albrighton breaking down the wing and his devilish curled delivery was half-volleyed high into the net by Vardy, the man who turned down Arsenal just over a year ago. A good shot forced a corner, which the Algerian then took and picked out Vardy inside the six yard box. One of them nearly saw Vardy get around Cech only for the goalkeeper to make a fine sliding tackle, only for Leicester to return to a more orthodox and obviously successful way of attacking against this side: swinging balls into the area.

Schmeichel's brilliant diving stop denied Lacazette a fourth but, from the corner that followed, Giroud headed home off the underside of the crossbar to seal a remarkable three points.

Two late goals from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud, brought the Gunners back from a one-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes. You'd have to say that decision paid off. But if the rest of the Premier League season is half as good as what we saw today, we're going to be in for a very special season.

Giroud header seals Arsenal win in season-opening thriller
Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head home a late victor for Arsenal in a topsy-turvy Premier League opener against Leicester. But Leicester, which so astonishingly won the league in 2016, couldn't hold on for its first win at Arsenal since 1973.

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head home a late victor and seal three points for Arsenal in a topsy-turvy Premier League opener against Leicester.

The game will mark the first time the English top-flight season begins on a Friday in its 129-year history. Ultimately though, most, if not all, goals for both sides came from poor defending as neither team looked ready for the season at the back.

Flooding possible Saturday into Sunday
A weak front drops south of the Valley on Sunday pushing most of the scattered storms southward into Central and South Alabama. Friday's temperatures across the west will be in the upper 70s to low 80s, with the Grand Junction area seeing upper 80s.
