Arsenal's Arsene Wenger 'not super optimistic' on Alexis Sanchez stay

Arsenal are becoming increasingly concerned that Alexis Sanchez might yet force his way out of the Emirates before the end of the transfer window.

Wenger was reported to have railed against the introduction of a director of football at Arsenal as his unseemly contract saga rumbled on and he senses a move towards more technical analysis in the running of clubs, with a shift away from what he terms "football specialists". But, according to the Mirror, Arsenal are anxious Sanchez, might revive his efforts to leave the club before the end of the month.

"He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training, before he came to Wembley", Wenger said.

He will certainly miss Friday's opener at home to Leicester City while Wenger confirmed he is also likely to sit out the trip to Stoke City a week later. He had a scan two days ago and he's out for a while I don't know is it two weeks or one more week but he will not be available. Personally I think he is a hugely talented player, he's on the way up and he will continue to move up because the potential is there. For us Alexis Sanchez is a loss, of course.

Arsenal have refused to consider selling the forward, who hit 24 goals in 38 league games last term, a tally bettered only by Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku in the English top flight.

However, Wenger was surprisingly upbeat over Sanchez's future.

"All is possible you know". Now, will we manage to extend his contract?

"I can't tell you that at the moment if there have been offers", he said.

"It is a relief and I believe as well a reminder to the players that they have hurdles on the way and that we can get round it, like tonight so that is quite positive".
