His wish has come a step closer as Paramount has beaten Universal to the rights to Walter Isaacson's upcoming book on da Vinci, which comes with DiCaprio set to star. In addition to playing the iconic role, the 42-year-old actor will also have a hand in the film's production, as his company Appian Way has signed onto the movie too, according to Deadline.

In writing Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaacson reportedly used Da Vinci's notebooks to weave together a narrative thread marrying his incredible imagination with his celebrated artistic and scientific works. So it seems like destiny that DiCaprio someday might play his namesake, the artist who painted The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa.
