Security chiefs: War with N Korea is not imminent

CIA Director Mike Pompeo (pahm-PAY'-oh) says there's "nothing imminent today".

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said Sunday that there is no "imminent" threat of North Korea attacking the US with a nuclear weapon, but he still expects the country to continue developing its missile program even as other countries call on it to stop.

They said the United States and its allies can no longer afford to stand by as North Korea pushes ahead with the development of a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile.

North Korea has defied all calls to rein in its nuclear and missile programs, even from China, its lone major ally, calling them legitimate self-defense. "They expand the envelope".

Gareth Bale responds to Mourinho as United look to strengthen squad
Manchester United boss Mourinho told Sky Sports: "The game was hard , it was open at 2-0 and they had a chance to score". They were able to salvage their season by winning the Europa League , but more will be expected this time in around.

Trump has responded to North Korea's threats with his own fiery rhetoric.

North Korea warned foreign diplomats to leave Pyongyang in 2013 when it suspended work at a joint inter-Korean industrial park and threatened missile strikes on U.S. Pacific bases, notably in Guam and Hawaii.

"This administration has made our policy very clear".

Pressed on his "nothing imminent" statement, Pompeo said: "What I'm talking about is, I've heard folks talking about that we have been on the cusp of a nuclear war".

President Donald Trump's national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, tells ABC's "This Week" that "we're not closer to war than a week ago, but we are closer to war than we were a decade ago".

Senior US national security officials have said a military confrontation with North Korea is not imminent, but they cautioned that the possibility of war is greater than it was a decade ago.

He added that he was confident North Korea would continue to develop its missile capabilities under its leader Kim Jong-Un, "so it wouldn't surprise me if there was another test".

The CIA chief described Mr Kim as "rational" and responsive to "adverse circumstances". "The increased chance that there will be a nuclear missile in Denver is a very serious threat".

Ideally, the statues would be destroyed instead of just relocated, but I understand that might be a tough sell. He said he had meant to make the announcement later in the week.

Pompeo also said that the problem has been ongoing through previous US administrations, but he argued President Donald Trump was making strides to effect change. "But the objective of capable, ready forces is to preserve peace and prevent war".
