The Total Guide To The Total Eclipse

Solar glasses are a must for safe viewing of Monday's total solar eclipse, the first to span coast to U.S. coast in 99 years.

It's been 99 years since the United States was able to see a solar eclipse across the entire North American continent - the last time was in 1918.

Celebrations are planned nationwide, including weddings timed to coincide with the eclipse and a live Caribbean cruise ship performance of the 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by the singer herself, Bonnie Tyler. Viewing the sun or an eclipse using any other glasses or filters could result in loss of vision or permanent blindness. For a few brief, blissful moments, the moon will pass between the sun and the Earth, blocking the star from view for anyone within a 70-mile path that cuts across the United States.

The email advises students to "NEVER look directly at the sun, including a full or partial eclipse, without certified solar filters/glasses". The last time the contiguous US saw a total eclipse was in 1979. Any partial eclipse we have ever had, one of the things I have noticed is if it was not cloudy to begin with, it is cloudy during part of the eclipse. Even Britain and western France may catch an evening glimpse of a tiny sliver of the eclipse at sunset. This is truly a great American eclipse because totality will sweep the nation from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

With the onset of the Solar eclipse on August 21st, 2017, curiosity to see the sun is natural. The light intensity will be hundreds of times greater than if you looked at the sun directly.

The university is not cancelling classes during the eclipse, said Amanda Beardslee of University Communications.

At least two area libraries will host solar eclipse viewing parties Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. In Washington state you can experience nearly 10 to 15, maybe even up to 20 degrees, decrease in temperature. Even glasses that promise to filter 100 percent of the sun's harmful rays have to be used correctly by the wearers, which means people must resist the natural urge to peek over the tops of their solar glasses to get a real view of the solar eclipse.

The truly rare and dramatic effects happen in the path of totality, and that will miss Richmond by 290 miles to the south. If you're lucky enough to be in the totality band, you can actually see the moon's shadow migrating across the landscape.

Liverpool looked risky when he was involved and scoring and assisting will be what he'll look to deliver on a regular basis. Daniel Sturridge started up front, with Roberto Firmino moving to the left as Mohamed Salah dropped to the bench.

News 6 reporter Amanda Castro has been investigating where you can score glasses across Central Florida. For instance, distant mountains may still be lit while you are in darkness.

Residents looking forward to seeing the corona of the sun during the eclipse will have to leave the city. They will have some glasses at the event, as well as safe viewing stations outside the library and supplies to make a pinhole viewer.

Shawn P. Shields, who co-chairs the science department at Germanna Community College, said people who don't have solar eclipse glasses can view the event safely by looking at its reflection in a pool of water.

One tracked as close as Petersburg on May 30, 1984, but overcast weather prevented many from enjoying the sight.
