GPU roundup: AMD low on supply, Nvidia delays ship date

AMD says the company is working with its partners to address the demand and resulting supply issues with restocks coming soon. Pretty much on launch day the prices went up, and stock did dry out fast as there likely wasn't a lot of GPUs available. Upstream supply chain sources have told Taiwan's DigiTimes that, due to technical difficulties, there is an insufficient supply of components for AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics cards. There are also reports that issues with Advanced Semiconductor Engineering's packaging technology could be a contributing factor. We'll see if AMD can turn around its Vega supply issues before October actually arrives, but in the meantime, you might want to jump on these cards if you're lucky enough to find one available.

You can't knock AMD for getting Radeon RX Vega onto the market, and while it might have been late and not received as well as some thought, the cards are here - and there are tens of thousands of them so far.

ASE receives Radeon RX Vega GPUs manufactured on GlobalFoundries' 14nm FinFET manufacturing process, plus HBM2 memory from SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, then packages them using its SiP technology, explains DigiTimes.

"Part of the reason thats its taken us a little longer to launch Vega - I'll be honest about that - is that we wanted to make sure we're launching with good volume".

Along with Mignolet not carrying an injury, Ward's place in the squad adds another layer of mystery and surprise to Klopp's decision.

With the challenge from the Vega GPUs not as big as expected, Nvidia is also not in a rush to begin mass shipments for its Volta-based GPUs at the end of 2017 and has rescheduled them for the first quarter of 2018 based on Vega's status, according to industry sources.
