Mattis Rebuts Trump's North Korea Tweet: 'We're Never Out of Diplomatic Solutions'

PARIS France's foreign minister warned on Friday that North Korea could have the capacity to deliver a nuclear strike on the United States and even Europe "within months".

That launch came after Pyongyang tested two intercontinental missiles in July and claimed to have the USA mainland within its range.

The United Nations on Wednesday condemned North Korea's "outrageous" firing of a ballistic missile over Japan, demanding Pyongyang halt its weapons program, but holding back on any threat of new sanctions on the isolated regime. Earlier, US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said the US was not out of diplomatic options with North Korea.

The White House did not respond to a request to clarify the tweet or elaborate on what changes could be coming to USA policy towards North Korea.

The country's Supreme Leader is said to have inspected the device during a visit to the country's Nuclear Weapons Institute. On Tuesday, Pyongyang fired a missile over northern Japan into the Pacific Ocean.
