In 32 of 41 morning colleges, the voter turnout stood at 44% - a sizeable jump from previous year, when the overall voter turnout was 36.9%. Hindu College recorded the highest turnout at 65%, while the lowest, 14%, was recorded at Aryabhatta College in south campus.

-From the 51 colleges whose students elect the DUSU leaders, the percentage of voting in 32 institutions where votes had been counted was 43 percent, IANS quoted Chief Election Officer SB Babbar as saying.

The voting was conducted with EVMs and the results will be announced tomorrow.

Historically, a bipolar electoral affair, the election this year in Delhi University has seen the rise of another student group, the radical left AISA, which has found many supporters among students after the brawl at Ramjas College in February and turned the usually bilateral contest between the ABVP and NSUI into a multi-cornered fight.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday allowed the Delhi University to declare the results of its students union's presidential election, PTI reported.

The students of the college, in a referendum, had decided that they will not participate in DUSU polls.

"We received calls from various colleges about a good number of students turning out to vote", he told the news agency.

Altogether 10 candidates are in the fray for the president's post.

The High Court last week allowed NSUI candidate Rocky Tuseed to contest the DUSU elections. "Subject to the final outcome of the writ petition, the final result will be declared", it had then said.
