Nine people are dead, including the gunman, after he opened fire on a football watching party at a Plano home Sunday night.

Rushin noted that police are conducting a thorough investigation and will be interviewing as many people as possible, saying that a mass shooting like this isn't something law enforcement in Plano is used to.

Tony Cross, a 2003 Connally High School graduate in his 30s who made a living providing 3-D animation services in Dallas, was one of eight people fatally shot by the gunman, friends said.

The officer discovered seven victims who had been fatally shot, and two others were taken to a hospital.

None of the victims have been identified. The remaining victim's condition was not available. "And you still don't believe it, but you see his vehicle there and all you want to do is wrap yourself around it and see him walk up and say: Hey, let's go".

"She was a cook, and a quite fine one, and she loved hosting friends and families", Debbie Lane said.

Further details are awaited.

The motive behind the shooting had not been established yet.

An officer heard gunshots as he approached the house, as he entered the home he confronted the suspect. We've never had a shooting of this magnitude, never seen this many victims before. Rushin said the officer then made the courageous decision to enter the home without waiting for backup. He could not say whether police had been called to the home before Sunday.

"We've never seen anything like this in this city before", Rushin said. So he instantly knew what was going on. Training typically teaches officers to go into active shootings with a partner, but "when something like this occurs, you can't wait".

"I would ask everyone here today to keep the family members and loved ones of the shooting victims in your thoughts and prayers", Rushin said.

The officer opened fire, Tilley said, killing the suspect. "I think the officer showed great bravery", he said.

Inside the home, officers found two survivors, both critically injured with apparent gunshot wounds, and the bodies of seven adults. Two others were hospitalized, though one of them has since succumbed to their injuries, according to CBS.

The investigation into the deaths of the eight victims is being handled by the Plano Police Department. Gunshots were still ringing out from the residence when the first officer arrived on the scene.
