In a statement, a representative of Georgia Power wrote, "While the company is working around the clock, customers should plan ahead for the potential for extended outages, possibly days or weeks, due to the vast damage from the storm".

Crawford says Georgia Power expects a widespread of damage caused by high winds and fallen trees.

The number of power outages continues to drop in Georgia after the remnants of Hurricane Irma stormed through the state, claiming at least two lives. "These crews are working side-by-side with our own linemen to remove damaged trees and limbs and make outage repairs as quickly as safety practices and conditions allow".

Customers are urged to avoid all downed power lines and remember that unsafe electrical currents can travel through standing water and wet soil. The company is holding all Georgia Power resources in Georgia in advance of Hurricane Irma and is in touch with other mutual assistance network utilities to ensure coordination and access to additional resources if needed following the storm.
