Mohsin Hamid makes it to shortlist of Man Booker Prize

American author Paul Auster tops the shortlist for Britain's prestigious Man Booker Prize published on Wednesday, one of six books that organisers said "collectively push against the borders of convention".

USA author Paul Auster has been shortlisted - for the first time - for the world's most prestigious English-language literary award for his novel "4321".

"Exit West" is Hamid's fourth novel and what makes the nomination a matter of pride is the fact that he's made it to The Man Booker shortlist for the second time.

Weier and Geyser were arrested later that day and said they were walking to meet Slender Man in a northern Wisconsin forest. Two detectives and two former teachers of Anissa Weier's are expected to testify Wednesday in the case of Anissa Weier.

The other finalists are British-Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid's migration story "Exit West", Scottish novelist Ali Smith's Brexit-themed "Autumn" and "Elmet", Mozley's novel about a fiercely independent family under threat. But a host of award-winning writers failed to make the cut, with former victor Arundhati Roy missing out on a place, as did Sebastian Barry and Zadie Smith. American author Colson Whitehead, whose nominated book The Underground Railroad won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize, did not make the cut either.

Arundhati Roy, who had been longlisted for the prize in July for her latest novel, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, failed to find a place in the shortlist. "The emotional, cultural, political and intellectual range of these books is remarkable, and the ways in which they challenge our thinking is a testament to the power of literature", she noted.

After the announcement, Ladbrokes immediately made Saunders's Lincoln in the Bardo the favourite to win the prize at 2/1.

However, the typhoon has been changing its course and does not seem to be completely predictable in the moment. Any downed trees and road washouts can lead to travel disruptions well after the storm leaves the area.

Mohsin Hamid's Exit West and Paul Auster's 4321.

"The list represents a celebration of exceptional literary talent, ranging from established novelists to debut writers, that we are honoured to support", said Luke Ellis, CEO of investment management firm Man Group and sponsors of the prize.

The competition is judged by Baroness Lola Young (Chair), Lila Azam Zanganeh, Sarah Hall, Tom Phillips and Colin Thubron.

There are also restrictions on textiles, which are North Korea's second-biggest export after coal and other minerals. The council last month imposed sanctions over North Korea's two long-range ballistic missile launches in July.

The victor of the shortlist, which features three men and three women, will be announced on October 17.
