Writers, thinkers, social activists, journalists, people's forums and activists of various political organisations from across the country joined the protest rally.

No arrests have been made so far by the police, who is still looking for those behind her murder.

It has been a week since Kannada journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at her residence on September 5, but the outrage caused by her murder has not yet died in Bengaluru. She edited and published Gauri Lankesh Patrike and also wrote widely in the English press. She was known for her strong views against right wing Hindutva politics.

The march began at the Bengaluru Railway Station, and the protestors congregated at the Central College ground, where a national convention has been organised.

Videos and photos from the rally show a sea of protesters carrying posters that read "I am Gauri" or "We are all Gauri".

Demonstrators sang protest songs and held slogans with the words "Long live Gauri Lankesh".

BJP leaders have hit out at some rationalists who have been making allegations against Sangh Parivar outfits relating to the murder of Gauri Lankesh.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashish Khetan, along with the members of the party's Karnataka unit, also participated in the protest.
