Tropical Storm Jose Could Hit As Another Hurricane Right After Irma

According to the 5 a.m. public advisory, the latest available, Tropical Storm Jose, which the NHC expects will become a hurricane later tonight, is about 1,255 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

The NHC said as a depression, Katia was blowing maximum sustained winds of almost 56 km per hour and should dissipate over the mountains of central eastern Mexico later on Saturday.

The official forecast has Katia slowly moving out into the Gulf before making a 180 degree turn and making landfall in Mexico as a low end hurricane or strong tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center said the storm is expected to drift to the southwest tomorrow, and may strengthen.

Areas of Mexico to the north of Cabo Rojo and to the south of Laguna Verde are under a tropical-storm warning. The day owes its fame to Hurricane Irma, Jose and Katia, which are simultaneously menacing Florida, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, respectively.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) GOES-13 satellite captured astonishing imagery of Hurricanes Irma, Jose and Katia forming over the course of several days.

Hurricane Katia is relatively stationary, about 200 miles east of Tampico, Mexico as of 11am ET.

The first was over the Florida Keys, and the second, over Marco Island, left the island without water and power, authorities said. At least 2.6 million Florida homes and businesses had lost power, according to Florida Power & Light and other utilities.

The center previously said Jose had sustained wind speeds of 60 miles per hour, but recently became "a little bit stronger" - with winds reaching 150 miles per hour as of Friday morning. Tropical Storm Jose is gathering strength in the Atlantic and could become a hurricane following a similar track to that of Irma.

Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic storms in a century and a Category 5, spread devastation in Saint Martin, where it killed eight people, and Barbuda in the Caribbean as it took aim at Florida.
