Tropical storms Jose, Katia upgraded to hurricane status

Katia transitioned from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Wednesday afternoon, and was a Category 2 hurricane as of 4 p.m. Friday, with sustained wind speeds of 105 miles per hour. But it may be a concern for the Leeward islands, who have already suffered the brunt of Hurricane Irma.

The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon when Jose's maximum winds hit 125 kilometers per hour (75 miles per hour).

As these islands attempt to recover from Irma, CNN reported that at least two are now under a new hurricane watch as Jose approaches.
