Bhowmick was a 28 year old reporter with Dinraat channel, who had gone to Mandai, about 35 kilometres from Agartala, to cover the clash between IPFT and TRUGP, the CPI (M)'s tribal wing.

So far, four members of the IPFT are arrested by the police in connection with the incident.

Journalists have staged a protest in the state and demanded an exemplary punishment for whoever is behind the killing.

A police official said in a statement, "Police resorted to lathi-charge and dispersed the mob in Mandai as they assembled there violating the prohibitory orders".
