USA bombers fly off N Korea coast, Pyongyang calls war 'inevitable'

On Saturday, US bombers accompanied by fighter jets flew off the east coast of North Korea in a show of force created to project American military power in the face of Pyongyang's weapons programs, the Pentagon said.

U.S. fighter jets escorted B-1B bombers that flew near the eastern coast of North Korea.

It was the farthest north of the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) that United States fighters or bomber aircraft have ever flown this century.

Pentagon says the flight was aimed at demonstrating Washington's military options available to "defeat any threat".

The Pentagon says the mission in worldwide airspace shows how seriously President Donald Trump takes what's being called North Korea's "reckless behavior".

"We are prepared to use the full range of military capabilities to defend the USA homeland and our allies", she added.

However, McMaster in his letter directly to Trump did not mention Graham's name once or discuss the legislative proposal in depth. Since the entire Democratic caucus opposes the bill, Republican leaders can afford to lose only two GOP senators on it.

USA bombers escorted by fighter jets have flown close to North Korea's east coast, according to United States officials, in a display of military strength after an escalating war of words between the two countries. In the last week Kim Jong-un has said that Donald Trump would "pay dearly" for threatening to "totally destroy" North Korea if the U.S. was forced to defend itself or its allies against an attack.

The operation over worldwide waters showed the seriousness with which Washington took North Korea's "reckless behaviour", it said.

Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un have exchanged increasingly bellicose rhetoric in recent days, as worldwide alarm mounts over Pyongyang's weapons ambitions - including a hint this week that the country is considering detonating an H-bomb over the Pacific.

In his own speech Tuesday to the United Nations, Trump vowed to "totally destroy" North Korea if forced to defend the United States or U.S. allies. Trump called Kim a "madman" on Friday, a day after Kim referred to him as "mentally deranged USA dotard".

Speaking from Washington, DC, Scott Synder, of the Council on Foreign Relations, said Washington's latest move was aimed at putting further pressure on Pyongyang. Ri echoed those sentiments Saturday, calling the president a "mentally deranged person full of megalomania" and at one point referring to him a "President Evil".

Earlier Saturday, North Korea experienced a 3.4 magnitude quake, and speculation immediately arose that the blast was due to the country testing nuclear weapons.

"None other than Trump himself is on a suicide mission", Ri said in broad denunciation of Trump that drew applause from the North Korean delegation.

"He should have been handled eight years ago, and four years ago, and honestly - and 15 years ago, and 20 years ago and 25 years ago", Trump said.

Foreign minister Yong-ho even warned on Friday that Pyongyang may test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, a top North Korean official told the UN General Assembly that Pyongyang will take "merciless preventive action" if the United States shows any sign of "decapitating" the regime.
