Anthony to join Oklahoma

The New York Knicks agreed Saturday to trade star Carmelo Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a multi-player deal, an Associated Press source confirms.

Anthony recently informed the Knicks he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if NY could work out a deal to send him either to the Thunder or the Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN reported Friday. If he would have demanded that the kicker be honored, it would have increased his 2017-18 salary and would have further complicated the trade in terms of the salary cap and would have also increased the Thunder's luxury tax, which will already almost double to $27.8 million because of Anthony's added salary. Both George and Anthony can become free agents next year, and Oklahoma City isn't considered a prime free-agent destination, particularly for two players with interest in large markets.

Having made key acquisitions throughout this shortened offseason, the Oklahoma City Thunder have done everything in their power to please their Most Valuable Player Russell Westbrook in hopes he signs a contract extension prior to the October 16 deadline.

Whether or not the re-tooled Thunder - or anyone else, for that matter - can seriously challenge the defending champion Warriors this season remains to be seen.

Multiple sources told ESPN that UF police were investigating multiple purchases the players made at the university bookstore. Funds from up to 12 other students' accounts were improperly used, according to the affidavit.

Some seemed to think that the trade made sense for the Thunder.

Clearly the Knicks couldn't open training camp with a star (albeit faded) who didn't want to be there.

Even NBA superstars tweeted their feelings about the trade.

"Honestly, I'm happy", George, a former Indiana Pacer, told USA TODAY's Sam Amick.

From the day I first met you, I knew we were meant to be together. "New York. So, please pray for me". There's no way the Cavs should have ever given up much for Anthony.

But the Knicks have faced pressure to trade him for years as the team has struggled. "So that's why Oklahoma and this organization, the whole state, will always be in my heart", he said.

The most pressing thing for now is figuring out of T-shirt makers are going to go with Oklahomelo or Ok7ahoma. There's nothing hidden since I've been here so far. I was pushing for this opportunity to play with (Anthony).
