Iran's Hassan Rouhani vows to boost missile defenses despite USA criticism

Iran said on Saturday it had successfully tested a new ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 km (1,200 miles) and would keep developing its arsenal despite USA pressure to stop.

The news of the test comes just hours after Iran's Revolutionary Guard unveiled the missile during a military parade in Tehran.

Iran said on Saturday that it had tested its Khorramshahr missile with a range of 2,000 kilometres. Tehran has argued that the missile is exclusively for defensive purposes and are not a menace for any country in the region.

Video of the test firing of a Khoramshahr medium-range ballistic missile aired Friday on Iran's state TV.

The Khorramshahr was first displayed at a military parade on Friday, where President Hassan Rouhani said Iran would strengthen its missile capabilities.
