Ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's younger brother Shehbaz Sharif - the incumbent Punjab chief minister - is one again being considered for the premiership, sources said.

Kirmani said that political and legal consultations are under way at the Punjab House.

On July 28, Pakistan's Supreme Court disqualified Sharif from office for life, citing undeclared assets, and ordered a criminal probe into his family's wealth. "If this was about Panama (Papers), then why was I disqualified for holding an Iqama?" he said, referring to his work permit to work overseas that led to his being debarred from office.
