Kashmir: Soldiers, LeT militants killed in Bandipora encounter

Two militants and two Indian Airforce personnel were killed early Wednesday in a fierce gun battle in Hajin village in north Kashmir's Bandipora district.

2 personnel who lost their lives in Bandipora (J&K) encounter were from IAF's Garuda Force & were with Army for operational training. Two Indian Air Force Garud commandos were killed in the encounter and two terrorists have also been shot dead. The Garud personnel were operating with the Army for operational experience and training.

The terrorists are reportedly associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The security forces are going after militants as part of operation "hunt down" and on the basis of a "hit list" of militants.

A month ago suspected Islamic militants attacked a church in the area killing two police officers and stealing their rifles. Police are investigating the shooting and hit and run incident, said Nairobi Central chief Harrison Thuku.

Police sources told Rising Kashmir that the casualities took place after militants attacked the forces when they a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was underway in Paribal Rakhi Hajin area.

Defense spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed the killing of two militants and said the operation is still in progress.

Based on intelligence about the presence of 8 terrorists in the area, security forces including the Indian Army and Kashmir police laid siege and conducted search operations.
