According to Korean website The Investor, Apple is working with LG Display to produce a future iPhone with foldable OLED panel. However, if Apple decides to put the latest TrueDepth camera and Face ID feature on iPad Pro, the sale for the device could go up considerably. The news comes after a patent was filed by Apple in February this year, describing a folding smartphone with a fabric cover.

Sources say that panel production could start in 2020, meaning any sort of foldable iPhone could be launched the same year.

The report adds that LG has been working on its own foldable OLED panels for years, and is reportedly improving its durability as well as yield rate.

Some media reports claim that Apple is moving away from Samsung due to the concern of possible leaks from the display wing of Samsung on future plans about iPhones. The Investor notes, though, that LGD is expected to begin OLED iPhone screen production at its E6 plant in Paju in 2019.

Apple has also put an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel and the iPhone X will support HDR, TrueTone and 3D Touch display. In the case of the foldable iPhone, it seems that LG will take the place of the South Korean giant. Apple already has a head start in the segment, and the company believes they will be able to maintain an unassailable lead over Android in the segment for the next few years.
