Netflix's 13 Reasons Why has halted production on season two amid the Northern California wildfires that have been destroying the area, Deadline reports.

More than 20,000 people have been evacuated in California due to wildfires raging in eight counties of the state.

The unplanned hiatus has been extended for two more days, tomorrow and Thursday, since fires have not been contained and smoke in the area is pretty thick at various times depending on the wind.

Per the outlet, those in the cast and crew that have opted to leave have been flown home as many of them have homes in the areas of the fire.

Fueled by the Santa Ana winds, the death toll from the Northern California wildfires is expected to rise beyond the current 21, though officials believe numerous 600 people who have been reported missing will be found alive. At least 17 people have been killed as a result of the fires, and more than 180 people have been reported missing.

One of the series' stars Dylan Minnette, who plays the central character Clay Jensen, confirmed the production shut-down on Twitter.
