The chief election commissioner, heading a five-member bench, issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against 64-year- old Khan and ordered to bring him in for a hearing scheduled for October 26, Geo News reported.

PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi in his petition submitted on Thursday requested the Supreme Court (SC) not to consider the documents recently submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the ongoing disqualification case.

The federal minister's statement came following ECP's issuance of non-bailable warrants against Khan for repeatedly failing to appear before the commission in contempt of court case.

Khan's lawyer Babar Awan says he will again appeal the motion before the High Court. PTI had submitted an apology in the defence, however, Imran Khan once again fueled the controversy stating that he had not apologised and the apology letter submitted was in the personal capacity of Babar Awan, the chief counsel of PTI.

At the last hearing, on September 27, the ECP had adjourned the case until the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decides on the party's petition regarding the proceedings.

Khan stated that he confirms the apology tendered by his previous counsel, Saqlain Haider, regarding the "contemptuous" remarks, adding that the contempt of court matter is a "closed transaction belonging to the past".
