Girl Scouts Say Thanks, But No Thanks

But not everyone is thrilled - namely, Girl Scouts of the USA. Even if they find that Girl Scouts don't meet their needs, identifying what you see as a problem in the world and working to change it is exactly what Girl Scouting teaches, and I hope they find fulfilling experiences in the new Boy Scouting programs.

The Boy Scouts of America embraced a historic change with its Wednesday announcement that the organization will allow girls to enroll into the Cub Scouts program next year. Cub Scout packs can include any combination of all boy or all girl dens. The century-old program began accepting gay members and adult volunteers into their ranks recently, along with transgender boys in shifts that took entirely too long to become reality. It is expected to be formally announced next year and is projected to be available in 2019, the organization said. He said, "We have families that have a son in the program, the daughter is tagging along a lot of the time".

Richland Scoutmaster Eric Lindrose welcomes the Boy Scouts of America decision to allow girls to join its programs.

Joy Wheeler, the CEO of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri, said the Boy Scouts' decision to welcome girls could negatively impact their recruitment efforts in the future, but she believes their program is still appealing because it was made for girls, by girls.

-The Girl Scouts say that girls particularly need all-female organizations to really thrive and flourish. "Putting it on resumes, that will always be something that colleges and places of employment will always look at and know that this girl is very impressive and she means business".

Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) Stake Has Boosted by Geode Capital Management Llc
Schwab Charles Investment Management Inc. lifted its holdings in shares of Exxon Mobil Corporation by 6.4% during the 1st quarter. Exxon Mobil Corporation makes up 0.8% of Meeder Asset Management Inc.'s portfolio, making the stock its 21st biggest holding.

That's the word from Ruth Strawser, director of brand and strategy for the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana Michiana.

"Peter Jones with the Boy Scouts of America Montana Council disagrees".

"We think this is an unfortunate decision by the Boy Scouts", Osterlund said.

"It's now gonna be inclusive, the girls can now join and do what little brothers are doing", says Thomas.

It's not just that opening up the Boy Scouts to girls has the potential to move girls out of a girl-led, girl-centered organization. "I'm not sending her out in the woods with 30 boys".

Court defeat means Jacob Zuma is running out of road
Whichever way the court rules, it is widely expected that Zuma will simply adopt a new tactic to further delay his day in court. He also conceded that a decision to withdraw charges that was based exclusively on the timing of the indictment was irrational.

Strawser said Girl Scouts were unlikely to stray from their approximately 100-year-old mission empowering girls and that enough parents believe in the organization to maintain it for some time. It's about what we convey to young women about their achievements and the context in which they pursue them - that they are less valuable, simply because they weren't designed by men. Of parents surveyed, 90 percent responded positively when asked if they'd be interested in a program like Cub Scouts for their daughters, and 87 expressed interest in a program similar to Boy Scouts for ages 11 to 18, he said.

"We see it as more market competition", Else said, "and that's unfortunate". Girl Scouts is tried and true- we deliver the leadership experience for girls. For older girls, existing coed Boy Scout programs can and do help address those shortfalls. "Will Eagle Scout still be a great, sought-after thing?" he mused.

More than 2.4 million young men like Skelly have achieved Eagle Scout.

Those groups said the Boy Scouts' new initiative would not weaken their commitment to single-sex programming.

Les Callette said it's not just about the awards, however. "For co-ed groups, it does say that there must be a girl leader when female troops are present and male leaders for boy troop members".
