At about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the couple's Brooklyn home after the wife freed herself and called 911.

Paterson described the couple as loving people, and said he saw rope burns on the woman's legs while speaking to her.

Waldiman Thompson was taken to Interfaith Hospital where he died.

"She was sitting there, crying 'My husband is inside!"

Police are continuing to search for one to four robbers.

According to NBC New York, at least two masked men entered the home, tied the couple up and put pillowcases over their heads. That is what investigators are trying to figure out.

Family friend Tiffany Baptiste spoke with the outlet and said in 1980, the couple, who immigrated to America from Jamaica, opened their home to the functionally disabled.
