"I clearly remember my friends and I at 13 years old conning our parents into letting us see Halloween when it came out in 1978", Reznor says in a news release. "We left the theatre forever changed".

In celebration of the general spookiness of Friday the 13th and also the release of director/composer John Carpenter's Anthology: Movie Themes 1974 - 1998 (slated for release October 20), the boys in Nine Inch Nails made a decision to throw their magic on a theme that has haunted us for generations. We were damaged and scarred...and that theme stuck firmly in our heads.

The cover is part of a new compilation of re-recorded themes from John Carpenter's films, titled "Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998", released on October 20th. In addition to being the writer/director of iconic films like the original Halloween, The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China and They Live, Carpenter is also renowned for the music scores he's composed for this own work.

Carpenter is returning as the executive producer for the new Halloween, and in a new interview with Billboard he confirmed that he will be handling the movie's score.

At almost eight minutes long, the pair's reworked version is just as chilling as the 1978 original.

Carpenter adds that he's "impressed" by Reznor and Ross's "moody and dark" version of the "Halloween" theme, saying that it "does wonderful justice to the original". In other words, it's awesome.
