On Twitter today, an EA developer known only as Sean revealed that he's received seven death threats and over a thousand personal threats over Battlefront II's Hero unlock system. The analysis stated that it would take 40 hours of gameplay to earn the popular heroes in Star Wars Battlefront 2, something that urged folks in the online community to once again brandish their pitchforks and torches.

In case you didn't know, the game will not offer its Heroes from the get-go.

The issue is a play mechanic called 'loot crates.' They're unpopular, especially among core players, but they're immensely profitable and are becoming more and more common in today's games. EA responding saying, "The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes".

This response post has already accrued over 350,000 downvotes.

One Reddit user has compiled a detailed list of statistics listing match times and the commitment required to unlock loot crates and other trinkets.

Over the weekend a player logged statistics from their time playing the game's early access preview and worked out the rate at which players are rewarded with Battlefront 2's in-game "credits" currency. The second game has a single-player campaign, but the multiplayer experience is what most people are interested in.

That's on top of new chapters in the story mode, as you join Commander Iden Versio during the days of the First Order's rise to power.

Star Wars Battlefront II will be available worldwide on November 17, 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC. Here's hoping we can focus on the joy of battling Stormtroopers, and not the dread of battling a busted progression system.
