Xi urges Abe to improve China-Japan ties

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reiterated his country's commitment to helping the Southeast Asian bloc, pledging money to to "enhance maritime law enforcement capacity", as well as assist countries "in response to the rising threat of terrorism in Asia".

MANILA-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took further steps toward improving ties with China before the 40th anniversary of the two nations' friendship treaty next year during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on November 13.

At the meeting, Duterte, who hosts this year's ASEAN meetings, assured Abe of his support in Japan's position as it was a "matter of interest" for both countries.

Despite remote possibilities of the Philippines getting hit by a North Korean missile, Duterte told Abe that Manila is with Japan in pressuring the hermit state to stop its nuclear and missile program. "And he should realize that he'd be responsible for ending life in this planet if his mind goes out of control", he added.

"I want to promote the development of the mutually beneficial strategic partnership" between the two countries, Abe said, adding Japan hopes to work with China to make the efforts in this regard more stable and steady.
