The Fremont plant employs 10,000 workers, which is nearly one-third of Tesla's entire workforce, according to NBC News.

The email drew criticism from The Root as well as California Civil Rights Law Group attorney Larry Organ. Organ's law firm sued Tesla on behalf of other black employees this year.

This is the third lawsuit filed against Tesla this year for racist treatment of black workers and subsequent negligence by the company, per Business Insider.

"Although Tesla stands out as a groundbreaking company at the forefront of the electric auto revolution, its standard operating procedure at the Tesla factory is pre-Civil Rights era race discrimination", the employees said in the complaint, that was filed in a California court.

The suit, filed by former production floor laborer Marcus Vaughn on behalf of several black employees, claims that one of Tesla's factories practices "pre-civil rights era race discrimination".

Vaughn was sacked in October for "not having a positive attitude" and alleges in the lawsuit that he was called "n****r" repeatedly by supervisors and coworkers. Vaughn said he sent complaints to the human resources department, as well as CEO Elon Musk, but was sacked on October 31 for not having a "positive attitude". The lawsuit seeks class-action status and unspecified damages under California anti-discrimination law.

"In light of CEO Musk's message to employees that racist epithets can be directed "unintentionally" and that it is 'important to be thick-skinned, ' it is not surprising that the Tesla Factory has become a hotbed for racist behavior", the suit said.

The lawsuit is the latest in a growing number of lawsuits accusing Tesla of discrimination.

"In fairness, if someone is a jerk to you, but sincerely apologizes, it is important to be thick-skinned and accept that apology", Tesla's C.E.O wrote in an email.

There are other lawsuits filed against Tesla claiming the company failed to give proper notice when firing hundreds of employees, claims of anti-LGBTQ harassment, a complaint for a female engineer alleging harassment, and a complaint from the National Labor Relations Board defending employee claims that the company attempted to shut down a unionization effort.

Tesla has 33,000 employees worldwide, and approximately 10,000 of them work at the Fremont, Calif. assembly plant, according to Bloomberg News.
